Adeline is Engaged!!
Tony and I are happy to announce the engagement of our daughter Addie to her boyfriend of three years Adam. They met at Cleveland State University through Adam’s roommate who was on the fencing team with Addie. Adam is from Cleveland and Addie has spent most of her holidays with his family who live only a short drive from downtown. They both graduated in May last year, and Adam’s a mechanical engineer who does research on biomedical devices. Our whole family really likes him, and we’re excited to welcome him into our family. We’ve spent time with his family on our trips out to see Addie and they’re a fun loving, close knit group, so we all get along. The wedding is guaranteed to be an amazing party.
Addie finishes up her finals this week (towards her Masters in Clinical Social Work) and so wedding planning will begin in earnest afterwards. She’s got an overwhelming amount of ideas saved on Pinterest, so narrowing things down will be the first step. She’s a parishioner at the cathedral in Cleveland, and she plans to be married there. The date she picks will be based on the cathedral’s availability, and will be after her graduation next May. I have promised to not be an overbearing mother of the bride, only insisting that her cat not be in the wedding party. Edie will be a bridesmaid and is excited to offer her input as well. Fulton and Teddy are only concerned about the food served at the reception and the flavor of the wedding cake. Tony is happy, but already thinking BUDGET.
Addie and Adam’s engagement wasn’t a huge surprise for us (or her). At Easter, when Addie told us a week before she flew in that Adam was also coming, we knew something was up. While here, he asked Tony and I for our permission to marry Addie and we both happily agreed. The anniversary of when they started dating was May 1, and we knew he would pop the question around then. On Saturday, next to a beautiful scenic waterfall he proposed with a beautiful ring and she accepted. I was watching my phone all day waiting for her text, so when I got a notification that night I started cheering before I even read her message.
Tony and I will celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary in October 2026; to have our oldest daughter get married in the same year is crazy. Weren’t we just starting out on this journey ourselves???? How did we already get to this point? But I’m excited and already searching for “mother of the bride dresses that aren’t matronly”. Baby and little kid milestones are great, but I’m ready for these milestones.
We’ve had some other things going on, but I’ll save the regular recap for another post. I felt this news deserved it’s own stand alone celebration. I’m not saying this blog will become focused on wedding planning for the next year, but if I don’t want to overwhelm Addie with all my helpful suggestions, I’m going to have to record them somewhere!!! Feel free to share your best wedding planning, and money saving ideas, below!

Congratulations!!!
Congratulations! This all sounds lovely. I’m glad everyone loves Adam. What a cool phase of life for everyone.
Congratulations!! That is very exciting!
How wonderful! Many blessings for them and the families!
My budget saving tip: the bride and groom pay for everything. ? My daughters were mostly established with jobs when they wed their beaux, so I just smiled a lot and made a few gentle suggestions. The one with an outdoor wedding had a bouncy castle slide thing rented, but forgot the guests might need somewhere to sit. ( and their dog was at the ceremony). One married quietly and then had a celebration at a tapas restaurant about 18 months later. Great food- but so long. ( My sister and I took the younger kids away after an hour and got some pizza- bride was fine with that). And the third had pizza and Chinese food at home. I brought a cake. And they were all lovely. So it’s really about the people who come and celebrate with you!
This is such wonderful news!! Congrats to all 🙂
How exciting for everyone!
