Making lessons plans and buying curriculum, while important are only a couple of the tasks that need to happen to kickstart a new homeschool year. But it’s amazing how often one forgets all the other moving parts that make a homeschool successful until its the end of September and you’re already breathing into a brown…
Even though St. Bruno’s has a small class this year (just Edie). I still wanted to do a quick update on how things were going, and also update everyone on her post high school plans. I’ll also share a bit about how public school is going for Fulton and Teddy. As for Addie and Byron,…
Everybody wants to start their day off on the right foot. Having a predictable homeschool daily schedule for your family can help ease you into your homeschool day with less yelling and confusion. I always had a homeschool daily schedule hung up on the wall that we referred to throughout the day and week. Each…
Admittedly, one of the least exciting aspects of homeschooling is grading your child’s assignments. And while you may be able to fudge things for a bit while your kids are young, homeschoolers with an eye to college need transcripts. You might also live in a state that requires keepings grades as part of a portfolio….
St. Bruno’s Homeschool and its class of one, is off to a soft start this week. But, in keeping with tradition, here’s a brief run down of each child and their academic plans for the coming year. Addie, Senior, Cleveland State University Addie’s classes started on Monday. She’s in the Honor’s College this year, and…
Since I’m only homeschooling one child this year, I figured I would just combine my usual curriculum post with whatever else I was writing about. So come for the curriculum, stay for the family photos! Or vice versa. Edith, Grade 11 Unlike Addie and Byron, Edie has no desire to take classes at the local…
So I left y’all with a bit of a cliff hanger last week: Fulton and Teddy are going back to school! I thought I would write a post to explain the decision so it can jog my own memory down the road, and also to explain to those who remember the original enthusiasm with which…
I’m sitting in the hospital with Teddy while he recovers from a stomach bug (he’s doing much better), so why not a mid-year homeschool review to make me feel good about all the learning we’ve managed to do up to this point? (With the obligatory affiliate links dropped in at a few spots.) UPDATE: As…
Coming to you from the backwoods of Maine, its a long-winded post on visiting colleges, a.k.a. I thought I knew what Byron would be doing next year, but when I actually asked him, he had other ideas (plus a stroll down memory lane as I recall my own college selection process). (If you want an…
All the homeschoolers in the house, make some noise!!! St. Bruno the Great homeschool has four students this year: Byron, senior; Edie, sophomore; Fulton, 8th grade; and Teddy, 5th grade. We’re going to continue with our classically inspired, “hot mess” style curriculum for the umpteenth year in a row. Let’s jump into all the details…
Spring is here, we’ve all moved past February burnout (hopefully) and the end of the school year is rapidly approaching- thank goodness!!!!!! But in the back of your mind there may be a nagging feeling that your child isn’t reading as well as you’d hoped. You wonder if your child can catch up by June,…
So I guess last weeks Takes just aren’t happening. Might as well get to this weeks latest, which is a mid-year school progress report! WOOT! (Oh, and of course- AFFILIATE LINKS!) I can’t believe we’ve made it halfway through our year. Knowing we’re on the downward slope will make it easier as we meander through…
One of the few things I’ve been able to consistently stick with in our homeschool is the study of Shakespeare. The whole thing started on a whim during the 2014-15 school year. I’d tried reading poetry once a week during our “family subjects” time and the kids were ‘meh’. So I decided to introduce Shakespeare…
